A brief history of Buzzards Bay Brewing
From the heart of the Southeastern Massachusetts farming community comes
a new kind of brewery; a farm brewery where the land and the beer become
partners. Breaking new ground by growing some of its own ingredients for
its ales and lagers, Buzzards Bay Brewing of Westport, Massachusetts follows
in the great New England tradition of producing a wholesome, locally made,
hand crafted product.
Buzzards Bay Brewing is the latest venture of the Russell family. In
1986, the Russells founded Westport
Rivers Vineyard & Winery on an 110-acre historic dairy farm. They
now grow and produce world class sparkling and still wines. Besides the
Russell family's dedication to quality, they have a long history of commitment
to farming and open space preservation.
In 1998 the Russells continue this tradition with the founding of Buzzards
Bay Brewing. Buzzards Bay Brewing will help us support and maintain a beautiful,
historic, 140-acre farm. It will also provide the vehicle for one of Massachusetts's
first commercial hop plantings in decades! Historically, Massachusetts
had the reputation of growing the finest hops in the world. We mean to
reclaim that long forgotten history.
Our dedication to quality is undeniable. Buzzards Bay Brewing has a
brewhouse and bottle shop second to none. Our German made Kunzel 4-roll
mill cracks the malt into superlative grist. Our custom made 3
vessel brewhouse then converts that grist into ales and lagers with efficiency
and precision. Buzzards Bay Brewing uses the finest ingredients and equipment
to produced unrivalled ales and lagers. In order to ensure that the beer
is the freshest, most shelf stable craft beer possible, Buzzards Bay Brewing
bottles its beer with a double pre-evacuation
bottling line and then passes those bottles gently through a tunnel pasteurizer.
You can expect every bottle of beer from Buzzards Bay Brewing to be
exceptional. Enjoy the craftsmanship and relish the beverage that's so
fresh it will transport you straight to the gentle rolling hills outside
our front door.
